Ministry of Mining is responsible for the development, regulation, and oversight of the mineral sector in the Republic of South Sudan. The Ministry formulates mining policy and administers the legal and licensing framework governing exploration and extraction activities.
Its mandate includes the issuance of mineral licences, monitoring compliance with statutory requirements, and maintaining geological data. The Ministry works to establish transparent procedures for concession allocation and sector oversight in accordance with national legislation.
South Sudan’s mineral potential includes gold and other metallic and non-metallic resources. The Ministry engages with domestic and international companies involved in exploration and production, as well as with relevant Government institutions responsible for environmental management, land administration, and revenue oversight.
The Ministry also supports institutional capacity building and sector planning. Through structured engagement and regulatory clarity, it provides the institutional framework for responsible mineral resource development in South Sudan.
