The Ministry of General Education and Instruction is responsible for the formulation, oversight and implementation of national education policy in the Republic of South Sudan. It provides strategic direction for the general education system and works with state-level authorities to support delivery across the country.
The Ministry oversees early childhood development, primary education, secondary education and alternative education systems. It leads curriculum development, sets national education standards, and supervises assessment and examination frameworks. It also manages teacher development policies, including training standards and professional guidance for educators.
In addition to its regulatory and policy functions, the Ministry engages with development partners, multilateral organisations and non-governmental institutions to strengthen institutional capacity and expand access to education. Its role includes sector planning, coordination of education reforms, and alignment of national priorities with broader development objectives.
Through its mandate, the Ministry contributes to human capital development and supports long-term social and economic stability by improving access to structured, quality education.
