The Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare is a national Government institution of the Republic of South Sudan. It leads policy development and coordination on issues relating to gender equality, child protection, and social welfare.
The Ministry is responsible for advancing women’s participation in public and economic life, promoting the rights and protection of children, and strengthening social protection systems for vulnerable groups. This includes persons with disabilities, older persons, and communities affected by displacement or economic hardship.
It works across Government, with state-level authorities and with international and national organisations to implement legislative frameworks, national strategies, and community-based programmes. Its mandate also covers the prevention of gender-based violence and the promotion of inclusive social development.
Through its policy and coordination role, the Ministry contributes to the development of institutional capacity, legal reform, and national dialogue on social protection and equality. Its engagement with development partners and civil society organisations supports the broader objective of strengthening social resilience and safeguarding rights across South Sudan.
