The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs is responsible for national defence policy and oversight of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces. It provides strategic direction on security matters and supports the protection of national sovereignty and constitutional order.
The Ministry oversees defence planning, force development, and operational readiness in accordance with national legislation. It works alongside other security institutions and relevant public authorities to ensure coordination across the wider security architecture.
Veterans’ affairs form an integral part of the Ministry’s mandate. This includes policy development and administrative oversight relating to former service personnel, including welfare frameworks and structured reintegration where applicable under national provisions.
Defence institutions also contribute to broader national capacity, including infrastructure, logistics, and technical capability. Structured engagement between public institutions and the private sector can support dialogue on service provision, training, and systems development within established regulatory parameters.
The South Sudan Global Partnership Summit provides a neutral forum where Government institutions, international organisations, and private sector representatives can engage in informed discussion on national priorities. Participation from defence and veterans’ institutions supports transparency, institutional dialogue, and coordinated development planning.
