The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs serves as the Government’s principal legal advisory body. It provides legal counsel to the Government and represents the state in civil, constitutional, and administrative proceedings.
The Ministry is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and interpreting legislation. It works with other ministries and public institutions to ensure that proposed laws and regulations align with the Transitional Constitution and the national legal framework. Through formal legal opinions and statutory guidance, it supports coherent policy implementation and regulatory compliance across Government.
In addition, the Ministry plays a central role in constitutional development and law reform processes. It contributes to the strengthening of legal institutions and the advancement of rule of law principles. Its oversight of public prosecution services supports the administration of justice and the enforcement of national legislation.
By representing the Republic of South Sudan in domestic and international legal matters, the Ministry safeguards the legal interests of the state and underpins institutional accountability within the public sector.
