Ministry of Petroleum is responsible for the policy, regulation, and oversight of South Sudan’s petroleum sector. The Ministry manages upstream and midstream activities, including exploration, production, transportation, and export coordination.
Oil remains a central component of the national economy. The Ministry works to ensure that petroleum resources are developed in accordance with national legislation and contractual frameworks. This includes oversight of petroleum agreements, licensing processes, and compliance with regulatory standards.
The Ministry coordinates with other Government institutions on revenue management, environmental oversight, and infrastructure planning. It also engages with operating companies, service providers, and international partners active in the sector.
In addition to production oversight, the Ministry supports the development of sector policy and institutional capacity. It aims to maintain clarity in process and alignment between national priorities and industry participation.
Through structured engagement with stakeholders, the Ministry provides a defined institutional framework for petroleum sector operations in South Sudan.
